Mixed teams that don't connect

Sound familiar?

  • “Our team is spread across countries and barely knows each other.”
  • “We want an offsite that is more than a dinner and a tour.”
  • “People stay in their usual cliques, even abroad.”

The Experience

When Eger’s defenders held their fortress against a mighty siege, legend says a single barrel of dark red wine gave them their courage — the first Bull’s Blood. That founding vintage was walled up and lost, and the cellars have argued over it ever since. Today your team sets out to find the fortress vintage.

Your hunt winds through old Eger on foot — up to the castle ramparts, across the baroque main square beneath the minaret, down into the cellar lanes carved from soft tufa stone. At each stop the town asks something of you: read a carved crest, solve a cellar riddle, taste a local vintage the winemakers still pour by hand.

Five old-town stops hold the vintage’s story, and only a team that moves together will piece it back. A tablet guides your way and keeps the score, but the real work is yours: choose a route, divide the tasks, and trust each other as the clock runs down.

The Fortress Vintage runs about three hours on foot for 10 to 300 guests through old Eger. Teams self-guide by GPS, so Phoenix is with you only at the start and the finish — the old cellars keep the rest.

The Takeaways

The Fortress Vintage looks like a baroque town and cellar walk, but it rehearses how a team reads an unfamiliar situation together. With no guide to follow, teams have to agree a plan, split the tasks by strength, and trust each other to deliver — the habits a team needs when handed an open problem at work.

The five local-heritage stops do more than decorate the game. They give a mixed or international team a level starting point: nobody is the expert, everyone learns together, and reading a carved crest or tasting a local vintage breaks down the distance between colleagues faster than a meeting could.

Because the missions span heritage, creativity, movement and logic, every person has a moment to lead. The quiet problem-solver, the photographer, the one who loves talking to strangers — each carries the team at a different stop, and the group feels how much more it covers using everyone.

In the guided debrief, Phoenix turns the hunt into reflection: how the team planned, where it flowed, and what it would do differently. Each group leaves with two or three habits, and the client receives an HR summary of what the session revealed.

Program flow

  1. Start & Briefing · 0–20 min

At the meeting point Phoenix sets the story of the fortress's lost vintage, hands each team its tablet, and runs a quick practice mission so everyone can scan, film and answer. Teams pick a name and plan their opening route into old Eger.

  2. The Trail Opens · 20–60 min

Teams set off on foot. The first stations unlock by GPS as they arrive, each with four missions — heritage, creativity, movement and logic — to complete in any order, while the live leaderboard starts to move and the race takes shape.

  3. Into Old Eger · 60–120 min

The hunt spreads across the castle ramparts, the baroque main square and the cellar lanes. Teams split up, chase the missions that suit them, and trade the lead as photos, videos and answers upload straight from the tablet with no guide to follow.

  4. Closing the Gap · 120–160 min

With most stations open, teams chase the missions they skipped and the heritage challenges worth the most points. The clock and the leaderboard tighten, and teams decide together what to drop to reach the finish in time.

  5. The Finish · 160–170 min

Teams converge at the final point, where the last of the vintage's trail is revealed and the leaderboard locks. The team that recovered the most of it, fastest, is named the winner in front of everyone.

  6. Guided Debrief · 170–180 min

Phoenix leads a short, guided reflection on how the team planned without a guide to follow, who led where, and the two or three habits each person will take back into their own work on Monday.

The Phoenix debrief

The game ends. The learning starts.

Every Phoenix program closes with a guided debrief. These are the questions for The Fortress Vintage:

  1. How did your team plan the hunt with no guide to follow?
  2. Which missions did you chase first, and who decided?
  3. What did a local-heritage mission teach you about working with people unlike you?
  4. Whose strength carried the team at a stop you did not expect?
  5. What is one way your team will plan and divide like this back at work?

Frequently asked questions

How many people can take part?

10 to 300. Teams are groups of 4–6, each with its own tablet, and we add teams to scale, with one Phoenix lead per 50 guests.

How long does it take?

About three hours on foot, plus a short briefing and the guided debrief. We can shorten or extend the route to fit your day.

Does it need a guide or marshals?

No. Teams navigate themselves by GPS on the tablet, so no one follows them. Phoenix staff are at the start and the finish only.

What if it rains?

The hunt runs in light rain with covered stops built into the route. In heavy weather we shift to sheltered lanes and cellars, or move to a backup date.

Do players need to know Hungary or speak Hungarian?

No. The heritage missions are made to be learned on the spot, and everything in the app is in your language. Curiosity is all it takes.

Can we tailor it, or run it elsewhere?

Yes. We write the missions around your people and values, and we run the same format in other cities around the world.
