About

In Customer Colour Canvas, each team is given a 3D object to use as its canvas, along with black and white and primary coloured paints.

Teams explore the basics of contrast, artistic style and colour theory, and learn about the relationship between colour and our emotions and feelings.

Next, teams decide on a customer profile and work out how they will represent it in colour. They choose a suitable artistic style, draw a sketch plan and then paint their artwork. The customer profile gives every artistic choice a clear purpose.

Once the artworks are complete, participants walk around the room, viewing each piece and discussing the characteristics of the customer it represents. It is a relaxed, creative way to see your customers through fresh eyes.

Learning outcomes

In Customer Colour Canvas, participants learn about the relationship between colour and emotions, and how it can shape the way people feel.

They also tackle customer profiling in a light-hearted way that sparks plenty of discussion about who customers really are and what they value. Different teams often imagine the same type of customer in very different ways, which makes for lively conversations.

Creativity is unleashed as teams represent a customer profile through painting, choosing colours and styles that capture a personality.

For teams to succeed, individuals must listen to each other, respect differing opinions and reach a shared decision within a limited time frame. Those same skills help teams align on customers and priorities back at work, making the activity both fun and practical.
