Noc Mang School Construction Project
Noc Mang School Construction Project
A Community Service And Education Support Program In Central Vietnam
The Noc Mang School Construction Project is a community service–based educational program designed for international schools and institutions seeking long-term, meaningful impact through responsible engagement in Vietnam. Located in a remote mountainous area of central Vietnam, the project focuses on building essential learning and living facilities for children and teachers in underserved communities.
This project is part of Phoenix Destinations’ Educational Tours portfolio and may be implemented as a standalone service project or integrated into a broader educational travel itinerary in Vietnam.

Project Overview
The Noc Mang project aims to construct a small school facility consisting of two to three classrooms and a basic living space for teachers. The total planned construction area is approximately 130 square meters.
The building is designed to suit local environmental conditions and available resources:
Roofing made from durable metal sheets
Walls constructed using locally sourced timber
Terracotta tiled flooring
Estimated structural lifespan of approximately 15 years under tropical rainfall conditions exceeding 3,500 mm annually
The scope of construction may be adjusted based on available funding, with a minimum configuration of two classrooms if required.
Location And Accessibility
Noc Mang is a small settlement within Tra Don village, Nam Tra My District, Quang Nam Province, in central Vietnam. Although located only around 70 kilometers from the national highway, the area remains highly isolated due to mountainous terrain and limited transportation infrastructure.
Situated at an elevation of approximately 500 meters above sea level, access to the village requires up to eight hours of travel using a combination of vehicles and local transport methods. Challenging geography and poor road conditions continue to be major barriers to development and access to education in the area.
Community Context And Educational Needs
Tra Don village is home to approximately 500 families, with livelihoods primarily based on forestry and small-scale rice farming. Livestock raising provides limited supplementary income.
Covering an area of roughly 75 square kilometers, the village’s mountainous landscape separates households into small clusters. As a result, Tra Don Elementary School operates multiple satellite learning sites to ensure children can attend classes close to their homes.
Noc Mang is one such satellite site, serving 45 pupils ranging from kindergarten to Grade 4, supported by two teachers. Due to limited facilities and staff, a single classroom is often shared by two grade levels, with one teacher teaching both simultaneously.
Teachers And Living Conditions
The teachers serving Noc Mang are not local residents. They are volunteer educators from towns near the national highway who travel to the village out of commitment and care for the children. Despite extremely basic living and teaching conditions, they continue their work with the hope of providing education that may offer children a path beyond poverty.
Current facilities offer little protection from harsh weather. Classrooms are often damp during the rainy season and unbearably hot during sunny periods. Teaching materials are frequently damaged by moisture, directly affecting learning quality and morale.
A Teacher’s Reflection
“Noc Mang is a place of joy, tears, laughter, and deep meaning in my life. I dream of having classrooms that stay dry during the rainy season, where we can focus on learning instead of crowding into small corners to avoid leaks. I wish the rooms would not feel like ovens on sunny days, and that we would no longer worry about repairing roofs after every storm. I hope parents can one day afford proper clothes and school bags for their children. Here, the rain often soaks books and threatens to wash away the children’s dreams of a different future.”
Project Impact
The construction of classrooms and a basic living space for teachers is expected to:
Encourage consistent school attendance among children
Motivate families to prioritize education
Improve living and working conditions for teachers
Strengthen literacy levels in the region
Provide tangible hope and stability for a remote community
Positively impact the lives of approximately 50 individuals
Budget And Project Scope
The estimated cost of the project is approximately AUD 8,500, covering:
Construction labor
Transportation of materials
Building materials including timber, bricks, tiles, cement, sand, stone, steel, and roofing
Project scale may be adjusted depending on fundraising outcomes while maintaining educational functionality.
Educational Engagement And Student Participation
International student groups participating in this project will engage through non-technical, supervised activities aligned with service-learning principles. These may include material preparation, site support, cultural exchange, and structured reflection sessions focused on education inequality, rural development, and social responsibility.
All construction work is conducted by professional local builders to ensure safety and quality.
