Amazing Race Saigon: 120 Minutes Of Teamwork, Rain And City Adventure
Today was a memorable day for the Phoenix Destinations team as we had the pleasure of organizing an Amazing Race in Ho Chi Minh City for more than 70 guests.
The 120-minute program combined teamwork, city exploration, creative challenges and plenty of unexpected moments along the way. Starting from the Sheraton Saigon, participants moved through some of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, including the Independence Palace, Ben Thanh Market, City Hall and the Opera House.
The goal was simple: work together, complete the challenges, manage the time and experience Ho Chi Minh City in a completely different way.
The City Became Part Of The Experience
One of the things we enjoy most about the Amazing Race format is that the destination itself becomes part of the program.
Instead of simply visiting landmarks as tourists, participants need to observe, communicate, solve clues, make decisions and interact with each location.
At the Independence Palace, the historic setting created a strong opening for the journey. Ben Thanh Market brought a completely different atmosphere, full of colors, local products and city energy. From there, teams continued toward City Hall and Nguyen Hue Walking Street before reaching the Opera House area.
Each location had its own character, giving participants a new reason to look at Ho Chi Minh City more closely.
120 Minutes Of Challenges
The program was designed to be entertaining while still encouraging practical teamwork.
Different missions required observation, creativity, communication, quick decision making and time management. Some challenges were playful and visual, while others involved solving clues, finding information or working together under time pressure.
With only 120 minutes available, teams also needed to decide how to use their time effectively, which challenges to focus on and how to keep everyone involved.
That balance between fun and teamwork is what makes an Amazing Race Saigon different from a traditional sightseeing activity.
And Then The Rain Came
Outdoor programs always come with one factor that no organizer can fully control: the weather.
During the race, the rain started.
At first, our organizing team was naturally a little concerned. We wondered whether participants might lose interest, slow down or prefer to stop.
Instead, something very different happened.
The teams simply kept going.
Umbrellas came out, the streets became wet, but the energy remained high. Participants continued completing missions, moving between locations, taking photos and supporting one another throughout the route.
In the end, the rain did not become a problem. It became part of the story.
Some Of The Best Moments Happened In The Rain
Interestingly, some of the most memorable images of the day came from those rainy moments.
They showed people laughing, moving together and staying fully involved in the experience despite the weather.
For us, that was a strong reminder of why outdoor team building can create such genuine memories. Not everything happens exactly as planned, but when people are engaged and willing to participate, unexpected moments can sometimes become the highlights of the program.
The rain added a different atmosphere to the city and gave the race a little more character.
Finishing Back At Sheraton Saigon
After completing the route, all teams returned to the Sheraton Saigon for the finish.
The atmosphere was full of energy.
Participants came back sharing stories, comparing experiences, laughing about the challenges and looking through the photos and videos they had created during the race.
The feedback was very positive, especially around the combination of team building and city discovery.
Many participants appreciated that the program was not only fun and engaging, but also gave them the chance to experience some of Ho Chi Minh City’s most interesting landmarks within a relatively short period of time.
More Than A City Tour
For international groups, this type of program works particularly well because it allows people to experience the city rather than simply observe it.
The route becomes a journey through local history, architecture, public spaces and everyday city life. At the same time, the challenges create a natural reason for people to communicate, make decisions and work together.
Instead of remembering only the landmarks they visited, participants also remember the conversations, wrong turns, creative moments and unexpected situations they experienced as a team.
