Sustainability goals that feel far away

Sound familiar?

  • “Our ESG targets mean nothing to most employees.”
  • “Volunteering days do not show real results.”
  • “We want impact people can see and come back to.”

The Experience

Rewild Day takes your team outdoors with a local conservation partner to restore a real piece of nature. Depending on the destination, that might be a mangrove shoreline in Vietnam, a woodland edge in Austria or a city park in Chicago.

Teams rotate through three missions: planting native trees and plants, building shelters for birds, bees and small animals, and logging plants and wildlife on a citizen science app. Experts from the partner explain why each task matters to the local ecosystem.

Every tree planted and every shelter built is logged on GoQuest as the day goes on. At the end of the day, the group sees its total contribution on one screen, and each team receives the location of its trees to follow as they grow.

The program lasts about four hours and suits fifteen to two hundred guests, in teams of six to ten. We run it with trusted conservation partners in all three regions and arrange tools, safety gear and transport. Sites and permits need four to six weeks’ notice.

The Takeaways

Rewild Day gives teams a shared purpose that everyone can see. Working side by side in the open air, colleagues from different departments talk more freely, and the visible progress of the day builds a strong sense of achievement.

Each mission needs a different kind of teamwork: steady rhythm for planting, careful planning for building and curious eyes for the wildlife survey. Teams learn to rotate roles and support each other through tiring, hands-on work. Nobody is left on the sidelines.

The experts from the conservation partner connect the day to bigger questions about climate, biodiversity and responsibility. Many guests say it changes how they think about their own choices and their company's environmental goals, both at work and at home.

In the debrief, the partner shares the long-term impact of the group's work, and HR receives an impact summary for sustainability reporting. Teams can follow their trees online, see how the site recovers season by season, and are invited back for a planting day next year.

Program flow

  1. Welcome and safety · 0–20 min

The conservation partner welcomes the group on site, explains the ecosystem and why it needs help, and gives a safety briefing on tools and terrain.

  2. Mission 1: Plant · 20–90 min

Teams plant native trees and plants under the guidance of the partner's experts, learning how to choose spots and protect young plants.

  3. Mission 2: Build · 90–150 min

Teams build shelters for birds, bees and small animals from natural and recycled materials, and install them in places the experts choose.

  4. Mission 3: Survey · 150–200 min

Teams log plants and wildlife on a citizen science app, adding real data that the partner uses to track the site's recovery.

  5. Impact count and debrief · 200–240 min

GoQuest adds up the trees and shelters to show the group's total contribution. The partner shares the long-term impact, and each team receives the location of its trees.

The Phoenix debrief

The game ends. The learning starts.

Every Phoenix program closes with a guided debrief. These are the questions for Rewild Day:

  1. What did our team contribute today, and how do we know?
  2. Which mission was hardest, and how did we support each other?
  3. What did the experts teach us that surprised us?
  4. How does today connect to our company's environmental goals?
  5. What will we do differently at work or at home?
