CSR days that feel like a photo opportunity

  • “Our volunteering looks good on social media but changes little.”
  • “Employees want purpose, not another painting session.”
  • “We need impact we can actually report.”

The Experience

The Real Brief starts with a video call from a real local charity. Its team explains a real problem they face this year, from storage for a food bank to learning corners for a children’s centre, and asks your teams for help.

Teams research the need, design a solution and pitch it to the charity’s representatives in three minutes. The charity chooses the ideas that will help most, and the whole room then splits into build crews to make them real with materials we provide.

By the end of the session, the finished solutions are ready to hand over. Charity representatives receive them in person, explain the difference they will make, and share how many people will benefit in the months ahead.

The program lasts about three hours and suits fifteen to two hundred guests. We work with trusted charities in each of our three regions and handle all materials, safety and delivery, so your team can focus on the work.

The Takeaways

The Real Brief turns team building into real impact. Because the need is real and the charity is in the room, people work with a focus and pride that a made-up challenge can never create, and the result lasts long after the event.

Teams practise the full cycle of good work: understanding a customer, designing a solution, pitching it clearly and delivering on time. The charity acts as a demanding but grateful client, which keeps every team honest about quality.

Moving from competing pitches to one shared build shows how teams can let go of their own idea and unite behind the best one. Many people say this shift is the most valuable lesson of the day.

In the debrief, the charity shares the impact of the day, and teams reflect on what it felt like to work for a real client with real stakes. HR receives an impact summary that can be used in ESG reporting.

Program flow

  1. Brief from the charity · 0–20 min

A real local charity joins by video, explains the problem it faces this year and answers questions from the room. Teams receive a short brief with the needs, the space and the budget.

  2. Research and design · 20–60 min

Teams study the brief, sketch solutions and test their ideas against the charity's real limits: space, safety, cost and how people will use it.

  3. Pitches · 60–85 min

Each team pitches its solution in three minutes. The charity's representatives ask questions and choose the ideas that will help most.

  4. Build · 85–150 min

The whole room splits into build crews to make the chosen solutions real with the materials we provide, under the eye of our build leads.

  5. Handover · 150–165 min

Charity representatives receive the finished solutions in person and explain the difference they will make.

  6. Debrief · 165–180 min

Teams reflect on working for a real client, and HR receives an impact summary for ESG reporting.

  2. Why did the chosen idea win?
  3. How did it feel to let go of our own idea?
  4. What did working for a real client teach us?
  5. Where can our skills help this charity again?
