About

In White Water Expedition, a high-energy indoor business game, each team becomes a rafting company leading a first descent down one of the world’s great waterways.

Teams start by planning, learning and developing their strategy. Then they set off on an expedition of up to 15 days, aiming to earn client happiness points and food supplies by completing a range of challenges. Every decision about route, pace and supplies affects both the clients’ experience and the bottom line.

Full-sized rafts, paddles and all kinds of authentic expedition equipment create an impressive backdrop, while spectacular video footage gives a real taste of the thrills and spills of the sport. The room feels like a real expedition base camp from the moment teams walk in.

The team that finishes the expedition with the highest net profit wins the game.

Learning outcomes

Leading an expedition to a successful finish takes a careful balance of research, client satisfaction, safety and profit, the keys to a strong performance.

During planning and execution, teams are deliberately given more information than any one person can handle, so managing information well is crucial to creating the best outcome for their clients. Teams that share the workload and filter what matters most usually make the best calls.

Participants must also balance the budget, making sure clients enjoy the best possible experience while the business stays profitable.

As with any goal-driven task, the temptation to skip careful planning and just get on with the job is often hard to resist. That makes the review afterwards especially valuable, with plenty of practical lessons about planning, priorities and teamwork to take back to work.
