The project addresses both physical infrastructure and educational engagement, ensuring that the library remains practical and actively used after completion.

The Need For Literacy And Reading Spaces

In many rural and low-income areas of Vietnam, schools have limited budgets for books and learning spaces beyond essential textbooks. Without access to engaging reading materials, students often lose interest in learning and may leave school early to support their families.

• Repairing or constructing additional bookshelves

• Donating, organizing, and sharing books with students

• Cataloging, labeling, and arranging books for easy access

• Setting up a simple and practical book borrowing system

• Facilitating reading sessions, storytelling activities, and interactive games to spark interest in books

Five-Day Program Structure

Day 1
Arrival from Ho Chi Minh City, school introduction, project briefing, and preparation of library spaces

Day 2
Cleaning, repainting, and preparation of reading areas
Afternoon interaction with students through guided activities

Day 3
Construction and repair of bookshelves
Book donation, classification, labeling, and organization

Day 4
Establishing library operation systems
Reading workshops, storytelling sessions, and student-led activities

Day 5
Library opening event, student presentations, reflection session, and project handover

Sustainability And Long-Term Impact

The project is designed to ensure continued use of the library after completion. Teachers and school staff are involved throughout the process, with simple systems established for book borrowing, care, and future expansion.

Where possible, book-sharing initiatives and reading clubs are encouraged to sustain long-term engagement.

Optional Cultural And Travel Extensions

Following the five-day service project, schools may extend the program with educational travel experiences, such as:

• Mekong Delta cultural immersion and village life exploration (2–3 days)

• Ho Chi Minh City history, museums, and urban studies (1–2 days)

• Extended Vietnam highlights itinerary combining culture and geography (5–7 days)

These extensions complement the service-learning experience and provide broader cultural context.
