Community Service Project Book
Building School Libraries And Cultivating Reading Culture In Vietnam
The Community Service Project Book is an education-centered service-learning program designed for international schools seeking to promote literacy, lifelong learning, and social responsibility. The project focuses on establishing functional and welcoming school libraries in underserved communities, helping to nurture reading habits and learning motivation among students.
This five-day program forms part of Phoenix Destinations’ Educational Tours portfolio and may be extended with cultural and travel experiences in Vietnam after project completion.

Project Brief
The primary goal of the Community Service Project Book is to create or upgrade a school library that encourages reading, curiosity, and sustained learning behavior. The project addresses both physical infrastructure and educational engagement, ensuring that the library remains practical and actively used after completion.
Rather than simply donating books, the program emphasizes:
Creating an inviting reading environment
Establishing basic library operations
Encouraging long-term reading habits among students
The Need For Literacy And Reading Spaces
In many rural and low-income areas of Vietnam, schools have limited budgets for books and learning spaces beyond essential textbooks. Without access to engaging reading materials, students often lose interest in learning and may leave school early to support their families.
A school library plays a critical role in:
Providing a shared learning and gathering space
Sparking curiosity and enthusiasm for reading
Broadening knowledge and shaping positive life goals
Encouraging students to remain in school
Helping parents better appreciate the long-term value of education
Student Engagement And Project Activities
Participants work alongside teachers and school staff in age-appropriate, supervised activities focused on building and activating a functional library.
Typical activities include:
Cleaning and preparing designated reading corners
Repainting walls, windows, and doors with bright, engaging colors
Repairing or constructing additional bookshelves
Donating, organizing, and sharing books with students
Cataloging, labeling, and arranging books for easy access
Setting up a simple and practical book borrowing system
Facilitating reading sessions, storytelling activities, and interactive games to spark interest in books
Educational Value And Learning Outcomes
The Community Service Project Book supports key educational objectives valued by international schools.
Literacy Awareness And Educational Equity
Students gain insight into literacy challenges and the importance of access to learning resources.
Creativity And Communication
