About

In Everest Summit Push, teams guide their clients on a 20-day expedition to the top of Mount Everest and safely back to base camp.

Teams must weigh up a range of factors, including client fitness, weather, the best route to the summit, acclimatisation, use of oxygen, pitching tents and strategies to outwit the other teams. Key information arrives on each team’s tablet every day of the expedition.

Teams race each other to make swift yet clear-headed decisions. Space is limited in each height zone, so teams that hesitate can get stuck on a poorer path or be unable to move at all.

Along the way, teams also complete active challenges, such as timed tent pack-ups, a blindfold climbing harness challenge and sleeping bag stuffing. They must decide what their guide carries: tents, oxygen or clients. Clients earn points as they climb higher, but without the right supplies they risk serious altitude sickness.

Learning outcomes

Everest Summit Push is an emotionally gripping learning tool, designed to change how people think about the way they work and make decisions.

Research shows that game-based learning helps people learn in less time and with lasting results, thanks to engaging themes, hands-on components and clear links to their business environment.

After the game, participants reflect on what happened during the expedition: how decisions were made, how risks were weighed and how the team handled pressure. Many teams are surprised by how much their early choices shaped what happened higher up the mountain.

They are then invited to connect these observations to real-life situations at work. In doing so, they can identify practical changes in behaviour that last well beyond the event, from planning and communication to customer focus and resilience.
