Community Service Project House
Supporting Safe Housing For Vulnerable Families In Vietnam
The Community Service Project House is a hands-on service-learning program designed for international schools and educational institutions seeking meaningful engagement with local communities in Vietnam. Set primarily in rural areas of the Mekong Delta, the project focuses on improving basic housing conditions for families living in extreme vulnerability.
This program provides students with the opportunity to contribute to tangible improvements in living conditions while gaining first-hand insight into rural livelihoods, climate challenges, and community resilience.

Project Brief
The primary objective of the Community Service Project House is to repair and reinforce existing family homes to ensure they are safe, durable, and weather-resistant.
Key construction goals include:
Repairing or replacing damaged roofs to make homes fully rainproof
Strengthening and repairing walls
Creating drainage channels to reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season
All work is carried out in close collaboration with the host family and supervised by experienced local builders to ensure safety and structural stability.
Community Needs And Project Rationale
Many rural families in the Mekong Delta live in simple houses that are highly vulnerable to heavy rainfall and seasonal flooding. Due to limited income, these families are often unable to afford essential repairs on their own. As a result, they endure repeated rainy seasons with leaking roofs, flooded floors, and deteriorating living conditions.
This project addresses an immediate and practical need while fostering genuine community connection. By working alongside local families, participants gain a deeper understanding of daily life, resilience, and the realities faced by communities living with limited resources.
Student Engagement And Activities
Participants take part in non-technical, supervised construction and support activities appropriate to age and physical ability. Typical tasks may include:
Carefully dismantling damaged structures and salvaging reusable materials
Preparing foundations by digging base holes and stabilizing them with stone
Assisting in erecting pillars and assembling structural beams
Supporting roof construction alongside family members and builders
Building low brick perimeter walls and improving drainage
Installing simple wall structures using traditional materials
Paving floors to create clean, flat living spaces
Helping reorganize and resettle kitchen and household areas
Professional builders handle all technical construction work to ensure safety and quality.
